Protected Harbor
Whittier’s naturally protected harbor, tucked deep within the sheltered waters of Prince William Sound, offers a calmer, more reliable docking experience compared to more exposed ports. It’s this consistent shelter from rough seas that makes Chugach Glacier Gateway Terminal a preferred choice for cruise lines and day tours and a safer, more dependable gateway for guests.
Location & Transportation
- The cruise terminal at Chugach Glacier Gateway is located at 1313 Prince William Sound Drive in Whittier, Alaska—just 60 miles southeast of Anchorage.
- Visitors traveling by road should plan for a scenic 1.5-hour drive from Anchorage, which includes passing through the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, the longest highway tunnel in North America. Rail travelers can enjoy a direct Alaska Railroad route from Anchorage in approximately 2.5 hours.
- Due to Whittier’s remote setting and limited ride-hailing availability, guests are strongly encouraged not to rely on services like Uber or Lyft. Instead, transportation between the Anchorage airport and the terminal is available through pre-arranged options provided by cruise lines. Please check with your cruise operator in advance to ensure a smooth journey.
Parking
No advanced reservations are required to park in our lot, which is located within walking distance of the cruise terminal.
